Tanzania is the fourth-largest coffee producer in Africa, with an estimated 320,000 smallholder farming households being responsible for 95% of the coffee production in the country. Tanzania produces around 50,000 metric tonnes of coffee each year.
Despite this, investment in water and sanitation lags well behind the estimated need. A staggering 23.5 million people don't have clean water and 7 in 10 people don't have a decent toilet. Up to 1/3 of deaths in children under five are related to poor hygiene, with most of them being preventable with access to clean water.
We have worked with WaterAid to support a remote community in the Mbulu district of Tanzania, bringing clean water to over 10,000 people.
