Kenya
Kenya is world renowned for the Arabica beans that grow in the highlands around Mount Kenya, making coffee one of the countries largest exports. Given their huge popularity, the Kenyan coffee industry is estimated to provide jobs for about 6 million people. However, even with the large demand for Kenyan coffee, 43% of their population still lives under the poverty line.
This is the first year that Project Waterfall has funded projects in Kenya. In partnership with UK Coffee Week and WaterAid, Project Waterfall is working to bring clean water and sanitation facilities to schools in Nairobi, Kisumu District and Siaya District as part of a tri-country project "Investing in Education".
